WebThese earlier “hierarchical” mergers leave distinguishable traces, like specific spin magnitudes, in their descendent black holes. Such traces can be seen through gravitational wave analysis. In this talk, Maya Fishbach will share results that indicate hierarchical mergers are uncommon, especially among black holes smaller than roughly 60 solar … Webmergers encounter new black holes, resulting in so-called hierarchical mergers. Hierarchical events carry signatures such as higher-than-usual black hole mass and spin. Here we show that the recently reported gravitational-wave candidate, GW170817A, could be the result of such a hierarchical merger. In particular, its chirp mass ∼40Me and Web25 de ago. de 2024 · Constraining hierarchical mergers of binary black holes detectable with LIGO-Virgo. Web1 de nov. de 2024 · Hierarchical mergers at traps in AGNs will exhibit black hole spins (anti)aligned with the binary's orbital axis, a distinct property from other hierarchical channels. Our results suggest, although not definitively (with odds ratio of ∼1), that LIGO's heaviest merger so far, GW170729, could have originated from this channel. WebWe run 12 different simulations, varying the mass of galaxies, type of galaxies, and initial population of black holes. We find that not all nuclear star cluster are excellent for hierarchical mergers. Small escape velocity in lighter nuclear star clusters and long dynamical timescales in heavier nuclear star clusters stops hierarchical mergers.
